D2001 Exhibition

The Preformed Line Products (Australia) stand at the D2001 Conference and Exhibition attracted great interest from both delegates and other exhibitors. But let us look behind the facade to gain an understanding of what it took to put this exhibition stand together.

The stand concept and design was undertaken by two students Emma Jefferson and Glenn Quevedo, of the University of Western Sydney Nepean who are studying to gain a degree in Design, Visual Communications. Emma is a second year student whilst Glenn is in his final third year.

They worked on the project between other duties as a part of their part time employment in the marketing department of PLP. The brief for the project was to reflect PLP Australia's offering to the market, to bring all aspects of PLP Australia's business together on display. The image had to also reflect our business ethic as a solid, trustworthy local manufacturer of the highest quality.

The stand needed to encompass a great range of products from the company's product groups of Distribution, Transmission, Communications, Substation and service aspect offered by PLP in an artistic and communicative method the overall stand shape and design had to emulate the basis of our business solid, modern and futuristic.
As the stand was quite small, 3 x 6 metres, the maximisation of space was needed and the concept of utilising the floor as a showcase was born. This was achieved by the introduction of eight-in-floor showcases fully lit with product specific cases covering each product range.

The aspect of the people and service linked to the products was accomplished by three, 3 x 1 metre banners attached to the rear wall, spot lighted from above and front of the stand. We introduced active components into the stand with both video and Microsoft Powerpoint presentations projected onto a hidden screen incorporated into the back wall. This active component was complemented with the added feature of a transferable bench that was part of the sidewall that could be moved to the front of the stand for live demonstrations.

The stand, coupled with a PLP training vehicle demonstrations in the 'bull ring' which was presented by Dan McGonigal, PLP Australia's Product Development Manager, produced a well balanced and exciting stand and presentation to the D2001 attendees.
